uV Sun protection for Children

UV sun protection is important for all of us but especially for babies and children.  Here are our tips to reduce sun exposure for children:

  • - Check out the average temperatures before booking your holiday
  •
  • - Cover skin with clothing.  Childrens UV sun suits have a close weave to provide more protection than ordinary clothes
  •
  • - Protect the face, eyes and head with a wide brimmed sun hat and sunglasses
  •
  • - Wherever you are, maximise your baby's shade. Take a look at this beach shelter from Amazon (left) for added sun protection for your children on the beach. Or these buggy sun protectors
  •
  • -  Use a ‘broad spectrum’ sunscreen with a 4 or 5 star rating especially formulated for babies and children and read the instructions carefully about when and how to apply and how often
  •
  • - Stay in the shade during the hottest hours of the day; generally 11am - 3pm but adjust if it is slightly different where you are on holiday.
  •
  • - Plan your day to be at the beach early in the morning, then inside for lunch and a nap, and head out later when the sun has cooled again
  •
  • - make sure children drink plenty of water.  Tip: half fill plastic water bottles the night before with water, freeze and then top up in the morning and you’ll have cold water that will stay cold a while to take to the beach with you.
